Key Facts

  • APLIC was formed in late 1980’s to deal with issues of crane collisions with power lines in southern Colorado
  • Originally composed of 10 utilities nationwide, EEI, USFWS and Audubon Society
  • Now includes 30+ utilities, National Rural Electric Cooperative Association, Electric Power Research Institute, and USFWS (more on membership)
  • Meets twice a year

The Avian Power Line Interaction Committee (APLIC) leads the electric utility industry in the protection of avian resources while enhancing reliable energy delivery. We work in partnership with utilities, resource agencies and the public to:

  • Develop & provide educational resources
  • Identify and fund research
  • Develop & provide cost-effective management options, and
  • Serve as the focal point for avian interaction utility issues

In addition to dealing with issues of bird collisions with power lines, APLIC has taken on issue of raptor electrocutions.

Current activities include Research, Web site development, Spanish translation of APLIC raptor protection manual, Short courses, and Guidance and advice to other utilities.
